Ryzen 7 7700X vs Ryzen 9 5900XT benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 5900XT beats the Ryzen 7 7700X in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7700X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 5900XT has significantly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 7700X has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 7700X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 7 7700X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 9 5900XT. Also, the Ryzen 7 7700X has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 9 5900XT also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 7700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
