Xeon E5-2660 vs Xeon W-2223 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2660 performs better than the Xeon W-2223. Despite this, the Xeon W-2223 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2660 has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Xeon W-2223 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon W-2223. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon W-2223 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2660. Also, the Xeon W-2223 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Xeon E5-2660 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W-2223 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2660 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
