Ryzen 9 4900H vs Core i5-12500H comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-12500H performs better than the Ryzen 9 4900H. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 4900H in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-12500H has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 4900H that has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 4900H has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-12500H. Despite this, the Core i5-12500H has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-12500H has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 4900H. The Core i5-12500H also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 4900H has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
