Ryzen 7 5800X vs Ryzen 9 5980HX benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 5800X beats the Ryzen 9 5980HX in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 5980HX in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5980HX. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5980HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 5980HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 5800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 7 5800X also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
