Ryzen 7 4800U vs Core i5-9500 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 4800U beats the Core i5-9500 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-9500 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 4800U has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i5-9500 that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-9500. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-9500 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 4800U. Also, the Core i5-9500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 4800U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-9500 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 7 4800U has more L2 cache than the Core i5-9500. Despite this, the Core i5-9500 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 4800U.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 4800U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
