Ryzen 7 4700U vs Xeon E5-2683 v3 comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2683 v3 performs better than the Ryzen 7 4700U. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 4700U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2683 v3 has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 4700U that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 4700U. In terms of clock speed, the Ryzen 7 4700U and Xeon E5-2683 v3 are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 4700U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 4700U CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2683 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 7 4700U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
