Ryzen 7 4700U vs Core i7-8700K comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8700K performs better than the Ryzen 7 4700U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 4700U in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 4700U has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i7-8700K that has 6 cores. Despite this, the Core i7-8700K has more threads than the Ryzen 7 4700U. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-8700K has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 4700U. Also, the Core i7-8700K has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 4700U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-8700K CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 4700U has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700K. Despite this, the Core i7-8700K has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 4700U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 7 4700U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
