Ryzen 7 4700U vs Core i5-9400F benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 7 4700U performs better than the Core i5-9400F. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-9400F in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 7 4700U has slightly more cores than the Core i5-9400F. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 4700U has 8 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i5-9400F. It also has more threads than the Core i5-9400F. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-9400F has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 4700U. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 4700U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 4700U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-9400F CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 4700U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-9400F. Despite this, the Core i5-9400F has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 4700U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 7 4700U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
