Ryzen 7 1700X vs Ryzen 9 5980HX benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5980HX performs better than the Ryzen 7 1700X. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 1700X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 1700X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5980HX. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5980HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 5980HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 1700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches and L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
