Ryzen 5 5500U vs Core i5-9500 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 5 5500U is faster than the Core i5-9500. Despite this, the Core i5-9500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 5 5500U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-9500 has a much higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 5500U. A Ryzen 5 5500U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-9500 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 5500U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-9500. Despite this, the Core i5-9500 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 5500U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 5500U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
