Ryzen 5 2500U vs Core i3-6100 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 2500U performs better than the Core i3-6100. Despite this, the Core i3-6100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 5 2500U has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Core i3-6100 that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i3-6100. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-6100 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 2500U. A Ryzen 5 2500U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i3-6100 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 2500U has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i3-6100. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 2500U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
