Ryzen 3 2300X vs Xeon E5-2660 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2660 beats the Ryzen 3 2300X in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 2300X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2660 has significantly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 2300X has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 2300X. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 2300X has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2660. Also, the Ryzen 3 2300X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 3 2300X CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2660 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 3 2300X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
