Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs GeForce RTX 4070 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX beats the GeForce RTX 4070 in gaming performance.
Our database shows that the GeForce RTX 4070 has a slightly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation. Despite this, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has a slightly higher boost clock speed. This is a frequency that can be reached if the GPU is cooled sufficiently and has enough power.
Next up, in terms of GPU memory, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has significantly more memory with 24 GiB of memory compared to 12 GiB. Lots of memory is good when playing at high resolutions or with many monitors.
In addition, the GeForce RTX 4070 has a slightly lower TDP at 300 W when compared to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX at 355 W. This is not a measure of performance, but rather the amount of heat generated by the chip when running at its highest speed.
In terms of raw gaming performance in our GPU benchmark, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is better than the GeForce RTX 4070.
