FX-9590 vs Core i7-3940XM specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the FX-9590 performs better than the Core i7-3940XM. Despite this, the Core i7-3940XM has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the FX-9590 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-3940XM. The Core i7-3940XM outputs less heat than FX-9590 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-9590 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-3940XM. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the FX-9590 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
