Core i9-12900KS vs Ryzen 9 9900X3D specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 9900X3D performs better than the Core i9-12900KS. Despite this, the Core i9-12900KS has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i9-12900KS has slightly more cores than the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. Indeed, the Core i9-12900KS has 16 cores compared to 12 cores found in the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 9900X3D has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i9-12900KS. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D outputs less heat than Core i9-12900KS thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i9-12900KS has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
