Core i7-9850HL vs Xeon W3550 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-9850HL beats the Xeon W3550 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon W3550 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-9850HL has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Xeon W3550 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon W3550. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon W3550 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-9850HL. Despite this, the Core i7-9850HL has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-9850HL CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W3550 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i7-9850HL has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Xeon W3550. The Core i7-9850HL also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-9850HL has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
