Core i7-9700T vs Ryzen 5 240 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-9700T performs better than the Ryzen 5 240. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 240 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-9700T has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 240 that has 6 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 240 has more threads than the Core i7-9700T. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 240 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-9700T. Also, the Ryzen 5 240 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-9700T CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 5 240 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i7-9700T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
