Core i7-9700 vs Core i7-6950X specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-9700 beats the Core i7-6950X in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-6950X in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-6950X has slightly more cores with 10 cores whereas the Core i7-9700 has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-9700. In terms of clock speed, the Core i7-9700 and Core i7-6950X are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Core i7-9700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-9700 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-6950X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i7-6950X has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-9700. The Core i7-6950X also has significantly more L3 cache.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i7-9700 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
