Core i7-3940XM vs Core i3-N305 specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i3-N305 is faster than the Core i7-3940XM. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-3940XM in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i3-N305 has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i7-3940XM that has 4 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-3940XM has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i3-N305. Also, the Core i7-3940XM has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i3-N305 outputs less heat than Core i7-3940XM thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i3-N305 has more L2 cache than the Core i7-3940XM. Despite this, the Core i7-3940XM has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Core i3-N305.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-3940XM has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
