Core i5-9500 vs Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-9500 performs better than the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-9500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G has 4 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G has more threads than the Core i5-9500. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-9500. Despite this, the Core i5-9500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i5-9500. Despite this, the Core i5-9500 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-9500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
