Core i5-11400F vs Xeon E5-2690 v4 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-11400F beats the Xeon E5-2690 v4 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2690 v4 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2690 v4 has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Core i5-11400F that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-11400F. In terms of clock speed, the Core i5-11400F and Xeon E5-2690 v4 are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Core i5-11400F has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-11400F CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2690 v4 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-11400F has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
