Core i3-6100 vs FX-6300 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the FX-6300 beats the Core i3-6100 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i3-6100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the FX-6300 has significantly more cores with 3 cores compared to the Core i3-6100 that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i3-6100. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i3-6100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the FX-6300. A Core i3-6100 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-6300 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the FX-6300 has more L2 cache than the Core i3-6100. The FX-6300 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i3-6100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
