Xeon X5680 vs Xeon X5647 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon X5680 performs better than the Xeon X5647. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon X5647 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon X5680 has significantly more cores than the Xeon X5647. Indeed, the Xeon X5680 has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Xeon X5647. It also has more threads than the Xeon X5647. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon X5680 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon X5647. Also, the Xeon X5680 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Xeon X5647 has more L2 cache than the Xeon X5680. The Xeon X5647 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon X5680 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
