Xeon X5670 vs Core i7-1260U comparison

In our benchmarks, the Xeon X5670 beats the Core i7-1260U in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i7-1260U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-1260U has significantly more cores with 10 cores compared to the Xeon X5670 that has 6 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon X5670 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-1260U. Despite this, the Core i7-1260U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-1260U outputs less heat than Xeon X5670 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i7-1260U has significantly more L2 cache than the Xeon X5670. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Xeon X5670 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
