Xeon Gold 6254 vs Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX beats the Xeon Gold 6254 in overall performance. Despite this, the Xeon Gold 6254 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has significantly more cores than the Xeon Gold 6254. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has 32 cores compared to 12 cores found in the Xeon Gold 6254. It also has more threads than the Xeon Gold 6254. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon Gold 6254 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. Despite this, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Xeon Gold 6254 CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Xeon Gold 6254 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
