Xeon Gold 6254 vs Ryzen 9 8940HX comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 8940HX performs better than the Xeon Gold 6254. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon Gold 6254 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 8940HX has slightly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Xeon Gold 6254 has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon Gold 6254. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon Gold 6254 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 8940HX. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 8940HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 8940HX outputs less heat than Xeon Gold 6254 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Xeon Gold 6254 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
