Xeon E5-520 vs Celeron G6900 specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Celeron G6900 is faster than the Xeon E5-520. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-520 in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon E5-520 has significantly more cores than the Celeron G6900. Indeed, the Xeon E5-520 has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Celeron G6900. It also has more threads than the Celeron G6900. With our hardware info, we find that the Celeron G6900 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-520. The Celeron G6900 outputs less heat than Xeon E5-520 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Celeron G6900 has significantly more L2 cache than the Xeon E5-520. Despite this, the Xeon E5-520 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Celeron G6900.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Xeon E5-520 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
