Xeon E5-520 vs Athlon Gold 3150U specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-520 performs better than the Athlon Gold 3150U. Despite this, the Athlon Gold 3150U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-520 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Athlon Gold 3150U that has 2 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Athlon Gold 3150U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-520. Also, the Athlon Gold 3150U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Athlon Gold 3150U outputs less heat than Xeon E5-520 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Xeon E5-520 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Xeon E5-520 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
