Xeon E5-2697 v3 vs Ryzen 7 6800HS comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2697 v3 beats the Ryzen 7 6800HS in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2697 v3 has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 6800HS that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 6800HS. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 6800HS has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2697 v3. Also, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 7 6800HS outputs less heat than Xeon E5-2697 v3 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2697 v3 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
