In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2680 v4 beats the Ryzen 7 7730U in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7730U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 7 7730U. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has 14 cores compared to 8 cores found in the Ryzen 7 7730U. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 7730U. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 7730U. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7730U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 7 7730U outputs less heat than Xeon E5-2680 v4 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
