Xeon E5-2630 vs Xeon Gold 6226R specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2630 performs better than the Xeon Gold 6226R. Despite this, the Xeon Gold 6226R has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon Gold 6226R has significantly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Xeon E5-2630 that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon E5-2630. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon Gold 6226R has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2630. Also, the Xeon Gold 6226R has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Xeon E5-2630 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon Gold 6226R CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2630 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
