Xeon E5-2620 vs Xeon E5-2630 v4 comparison

In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2630 v4 beats the Xeon E5-2620 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2620 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2630 v4 has significantly more cores with 10 cores compared to the Xeon E5-2620 that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon E5-2620. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E5-2630 v4 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2620. Also, the Xeon E5-2630 v4 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Xeon E5-2630 v4 outputs less heat than Xeon E5-2620 thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2620 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
