Xeon E5-2620 v3 vs Xeon X5647 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2620 v3 performs better than the Xeon X5647. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon X5647 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2620 v3 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Xeon X5647 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon X5647. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon X5647 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2620 v3. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. A Xeon E5-2620 v3 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5647 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2620 v3 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
