Xeon E5-2609 v3 vs Core i7-4712MQ benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2609 v3 performs better than the Core i7-4712MQ. Despite this, the Core i7-4712MQ has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2609 v3 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Core i7-4712MQ that has 4 cores. Despite this, the Core i7-4712MQ has more threads than the Xeon E5-2609 v3. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-4712MQ has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2609 v3. The Core i7-4712MQ outputs less heat than Xeon E5-2609 v3 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Xeon E5-2609 v3 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
