Xeon E5-1660 v3 vs Core i5-1240P specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-1660 v3 beats the Core i5-1240P in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-1240P has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-1240P has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Xeon E5-1660 v3 that has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E5-1660 v3 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-1240P. Despite this, the Core i5-1240P has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-1240P outputs less heat than Xeon E5-1660 v3 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-1660 v3 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
