Xeon E5-1620 vs Ryzen 5 5500 comparison
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 5 5500 is faster than the Xeon E5-1620. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-1620 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 5 5500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Xeon E5-1620 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon E5-1620. In terms of clock speed, the Xeon E5-1620 and Ryzen 5 5500 are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 5500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 5500 outputs less heat than Xeon E5-1620 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-1620 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
