Xeon E5-1620 v4 vs Xeon X5680 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon X5680 is faster than the Xeon E5-1620 v4. Despite this, the Xeon E5-1620 v4 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon X5680 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Xeon E5-1620 v4 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Xeon E5-1620 v4. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Xeon E5-1620 v4 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon X5680. Also, the Xeon E5-1620 v4 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Xeon X5680 outputs less heat than Xeon E5-1620 v4 thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Xeon E5-1620 v4 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
