Xeon E3-1226 v3 vs Xeon E5-1620 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-1620 performs better than the Xeon E3-1226 v3. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1226 v3 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Xeon E5-1620 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Xeon E5-1620 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E3-1226 v3. Also, the Xeon E5-1620 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Xeon E3-1226 v3 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-1620 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Xeon E3-1226 v3 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
