Xeon E3-1226 v3 vs Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U performs better than the Xeon E3-1226 v3. Despite this, the Xeon E3-1226 v3 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E3-1226 v3 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. The Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U outputs less heat than Xeon E3-1226 v3 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Xeon E3-1226 v3 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
