Ryzen Threadripper 3960X vs Core i7-9700K benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X performs better than the Core i7-9700K. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-9700K in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has significantly more cores than the Core i7-9700K. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has 24 cores compared to 8 cores found in the Core i7-9700K. It also has more threads than the Core i7-9700K. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-9700K. Despite this, the Core i7-9700K has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-9700K outputs less heat than Ryzen Threadripper 3960X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-9700K. The Ryzen Threadripper 3960X also has significantly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
