Ryzen Threadripper 3960X vs Core i5-12400F benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X beats the Core i5-12400F in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-12400F has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has significantly more cores with 24 cores compared to the Core i5-12400F that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-12400F. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12400F. Also, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12400F outputs less heat than Ryzen Threadripper 3960X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
