Ryzen 9 7900X vs Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 7900X performs better than the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has significantly more cores with 32 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 7900X that has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 7900X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 7900X has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. Also, the Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 7900X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 7900X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
