Ryzen 9 7900X vs Core i7-13700 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-13700 beats the Ryzen 9 7900X in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 7900X in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-13700 has slightly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 7900X that has 12 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7900X has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-13700. Also, the Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 9 7900X has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-13700. The Ryzen 9 7900X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
