Ryzen 9 6900HX vs Core i7-12800H benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 9 6900HX is faster than the Core i7-12800H. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-12800H in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-12800H has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 6900HX that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 6900HX. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 6900HX has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12800H. Also, the Ryzen 9 6900HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-12800H also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 6900HX has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
