Ryzen 9 6900HX vs Core i5-12500H comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 6900HX performs better than the Core i5-12500H. Despite this, the Core i5-12500H has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-12500H has significantly more cores with 12 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 6900HX has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 6900HX has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12500H. Also, the Ryzen 9 6900HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i5-12500H has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 6900HX. The Core i5-12500H also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 6900HX has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
