Ryzen 9 5950X vs Ryzen Threadripper 3970X benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5950X performs better than the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has significantly more cores with 32 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 5950X has 16 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 9 5950X. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5950X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 5950X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 3970X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 5950X. The Ryzen Threadripper 3970X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
