Ryzen 9 5950X vs Ryzen 9 9900X specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 9900X performs better than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 5950X in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 9 5950X has slightly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 9900X that has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 9900X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 9900X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Also, the Ryzen 9 9900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 5950X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 9 9900X CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 9 9900X has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 5950X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
