Ryzen 9 5950X vs Ryzen 7 9800X3D specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D performs better than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 5950X in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 9 5950X has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has 16 cores compared to 8 cores found in the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Also, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 5950X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
