Ryzen 9 5950X vs Core i5-8600K benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5950X performs better than the Core i5-8600K. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8600K in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 9 5950X has significantly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Core i5-8600K that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-8600K. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-8600K has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5950X. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5950X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-8600K outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 5950X thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8600K. The Ryzen 9 5950X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
