Ryzen 9 5900X vs Ryzen 9 9955HX comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 9955HX performs better than the Ryzen 9 5900X. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5900X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 9 9955HX has slightly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Ryzen 9 5900X that has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 5900X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 5900X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 9955HX. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 9955HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 9955HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 5900X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 9 9955HX has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 9 5900X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
